I’m running OS X10.11.6. A week or so ago a new folder showed up on my hard drive, labeled only with a tilde (~). I have no idea where it came from, and can't get rid of it.
My sister found this at a friend's house; she wants to know what it is. If I had to guess, I'd say it's part of a breast pump (with a little milking stool inside), but that seems ridiculous. Anyone else?
For years I opened dozens of photos at once in Preview on the Mac, cropped them all, and hit the button marked 'Save All Changes.' Since shifting to Mountain Lion I now have to hit the Save button dozens of times to accomplish the same thing. Is there a better way to do this, or a different, better program?
When I take photos with my Panasonic DMC-FZ7, the date shows correctly on the LCD screen, but when the image file is moved to my computer (which also shows the correct time) it's off by five hours. [more inside]
I shot a roll of print film (Kodak Gold 200) using the wrong filter (80a instead of polarizing). Can it be fixed in the developing — like when you push b/w film — or later, in the computer?
Three (well, five, really) short technical questions about voice recording and ADSL Internet connections in Australia [included inside].
I'm proofreading an OCR file of a 25-year-old book, and after I fixed it up the company (whose history it is) said I had to put back in all the original (non-OCR) mistakes (words spelled wrong, incorrect tenses, text inconsistencies, semicolons used miserably) for copyright reasons. I told them it's their copyright, and they can do whatever they want with it. No, they say, it's a historical record. It's also their money, so I'll do whatever they want . . . but are they right? Are misspelled words and poor punctuation a copyright issue?
