What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

I write code. Mostly Java, but also C, Javascript, and various things in the LISP/Scheme family. I like Clojure and Scheme the most. I'm extremely opinionated when it comes to most things surrounding the technology industry. Basically, I'm a grumpy old man programmer. But without much of the old.

My handle is representative of my life-long (or at least since I first dialed in to a BBS way back when) habit of poking, prodding, breaking, and exploiting in any way possible every input field and input validation routine that I get my hands on. Nowadays it's mostly just me staring at an input prompt and wondering "Huh, I wonder if it'll accept $SOME_STRING".

In the case of Metafilter, where $SOME_STRING was "-1", the answer was "Oh. Cool. It does."

What else? Well, I like to sail, and do so every chance I get (not *that* many, considering that I'm landlocked.) For a period of several years I was heavily into high-performance sports cars. But that's taken a back seat to having a car that has a back seat.

I'm a growing cigar enthusiast. If you know something I should try (not a big fan of full-bodied, but I'll try anything else!) let me know!
